Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was a long-awaited game, and since its announcement, it has been highly anticipated. Space Marine 2 definitely delivered, with its titular grimdark world being a rather great place for a third-person shooter. It is safe to say that the game was well-received by fans and critics alike.

There are many other games out there in the genre that have similar charm to them, and if you find yourself looking for a similar game, there are quite a few out there. So let us look at 10 games that are like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

Games like Space Marine 2, World War Z

World War Z

First, World War Z is a third-person shooter with an intense experience. You get to explore the world in the aftermath of a devastating zombie apocalypse. You get to play with 3 other players and choose from an array of classes with different skills and weapons.

It is somewhat akin to Left 4 Dead with similar mechanics but offers a far grittier experience with its hordes. It is a very well-liked game, often hailed as one of the best horde shooters out there. It is very enjoyable with friends and offers the same level of destruction as in Space Marine 2.

The game also enjoys having great graphics, and the cast of characters whom you play as are fun, each with their own quirks. You really get to turn your brain off as you mow down hordes of the dead with your friends while going through different, well-built levels and completing varying objectives.

Games like Space Marine 2, Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2

For Super Earth, Helldivers 2 dropped into the scene with a massive rush. It has seen a large, almost cult-like following since release, but with questionable updates and other backlash, the game almost seems like a shell of its former glory. To add insult to injury, Helldivers 2 is unavailable in many countries, basically those where PSN is unavailable.

This leaves a very bad mark for an otherwise great game. It's a third-person shooter similar to Space Marine 2. The game offers a myriad of mission types as you battle the enemies of Super Earth. You team up with fellow divers and battle across planets with a galactic overlay that lets you see the war's progress.

Despite all the issues with Helldivers 2 right now, the game is still an amazing experience. Whether or not you are fighting the bugs or the robots, you will surely be enthralled in your fight to protect democracy. That is if you can actually buy the game.

Games like Space Marine 2, Gears of War

Gears of War

You might notice a lack of numbers after Gears of War because all of the Gears of War games are pretty enjoyable. Some are better than others; for instance, Gears 2 or 3 might provide you the best experience, but they are pretty dead on the multiplayer side. If you want an active Multiplayer, 4 or 5 is the way.

Gears of War is incredibly similar to Space Marine 2, with its gritty, fast-paced combat that is more reliant on cover mechanics. You get to experience great campaigns [not so great on the newer games] and have access to different game modes in multiplayer.

Gears 5 also has an open-world feature and is a black sheep compared to the other Gears of War games. Gears of War 4, on the other hand, offers you extreme levels of action and is a great point from which to jump off. Both games have active multiplayer, so you'll have more to do once you have wrapped up the campaign.

Games like Space Marine 2, Alien: Fireteam Elite

Alien: Fireteam Elite

Like all the games before, Alien: Fireteam Elite is a third-person co-op shooter. Similar to the other games, you get to customize your character and grind through different missions and level up; all the while, you get to kill xenomorphs from the iconic Aliens franchise.

Have you ever played Alien: Isolation and thought, 'If only I had a gun…' Well, this game is an answer to that thought experiment. You get to kill many different types of xenomorphs and more with an array of well-balanced weapons. You get to choose between classes and select weapons to cater your playstyle to your specific interests.

A fun experience that is sadly restricted by the empty state of the game. For multiplayer matches, you'll have to endure relatively long wait times. But at the end of the day, it'll be worth it as you show xenomorphs why humanity is the best.

Games like Space Marine 2, Doom: Eternal

Doom: Eternal

Rip and Tear. Those are the words enshrined forever in gaming history. Doom needs no introduction, with its iconic music and soundtrack. You think Space Marine 2 was fast paced? Doom notches the action and fast-paced gameplay to 11, breaking the dial on gore and awesomeness.

A masterpiece that is often extremely challenging but never makes things frustrating. The weapon variety in the game and the iconic gameplay provide you with a tough nut, as you cannot just mindlessly go around killing demons.

For the uninitiated, in the Doom franchise, you take on the forces of hell and make them regret their existence. Of course, it shifts you from the third-person perspective of Space Marine 2 to the first-person. But that's neither here nor there. Again, Rip and tear until it is done.

Games like Space Marine 2, Dead Space

Dead Space

So, if you want much of the same from Space Marine 2 but also want to be scared while playing the game, Dead Space is for you. A sci-fi survival horror classic, you play as Isaac Clarke aboard the USG Ishimura.

Dead Space is not for the faint of heart. Despite being a shooter, the game is pretty complex. It provides an incredible narrative and immersive experience with strategic gameplay. While fairly different in theme from Space Marine 2, and you will not be mindlessly mowing down hordes of enemies, the game is still pretty close to that dark and gritty nature of Space Marine 2.

You gain access to seven different weapon types and get unique ways to tackle challenges. The enemies are terrifying and varying, with their own unique quirks. All the while, the game looks stunning and terrifying at the same time. Definitely grab it if you want a more narrative and scary experience.

Games like Space Marine 2, Starship Troopers: Extermination

Starship Troopers: Extermination

Another fast-paced shooter with intense action and engrossing gameplay. You join 16 other people as you hold off a horde of bugs. Set in the universe of the same name, Starship Troopers: Extermination offers you very similar gameplay to Space Marine 2.

Well, except you are just a human. If anything, this is if you were a part of the Imperial Guard. You have access to an array of weapons, but you must rely on your 16-man crew as you repel hordes of bugs. Would you like to know more?

Starship Troopers: Extermination offers the same atmosphere and humor as the movies while offering you deceptively good gameplay. You can also retake, defend, rebuild bases, and complete other objectives in your fight against the bugs.

Games like Space Marine 2, Remnant 2

Remnant 2

If you liked Space Marine 2 but wondered, 'Man, what if this was a Souls-like game,' you surprisingly wouldn't be a madman. Remnant II is a third-person soulslike shooter where you are pitted against a Lovecraftian evil and battle many different horrors with two other people [or you can try and tackle things alone].

Offering frantic and methodical combat with many different weapon types, you get to loot and upgrade your equipment while battling deceptively tough enemies. The class system offers a unique approach, and the weapons are all fun.

The gameplay loop is surprisingly fresh, and the bosses are incredibly tough to defeat. At no point does the game get boring, but it does possess a bit more grind to it. The game also has some narrative elements, but that is not its strong suit. Overall, it is very tangentially similar to Space Marine 2, but still a great experience nonetheless.

Games like Space Marine 2, ULTRAKILL

ULTRAKILL

If you’re still not satisfied with the likes of Doom, ULTRAKILL is here to curb any needs. The game is a ridiculously fast-paced first-person shooter that is wholly reminiscent of old-school shooters. Borrowing elements from character shooters, ULTRAKILL offers a great soundtrack, fun gameplay, and a lot more.

The game’s art style also reflects its old-school aesthetic. The game has lots of replay value, with various weapons available. With various movement options, you’ll weave and zoom around the game’s collection of unique bosses trying to avoid those dangerous movesets.

The game also offers a compelling story and is currently in early access. So, there’s always some hiccups here and there. That being said, if you liked the action and destruction of Space Marine 2, and want that to be turned up a notch, ULTRAKILL is for you.

Games like Space Marine 2, Darktide

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Darktide has had an arduous journey since its release back in 2019. Despite its rocky start, the game has seen several updates that have filled it with more content and promises of more to come. In Darktide, you get to jump back into the world of Warhammer 40,000, this time as a good old human… or Ogryn, and take on hordes of enemies in a dark and gritty city.

A successor to the beloved Vermintide games, Darktide places you and three others in a bid to save the city of Tertium. With brutal and action-packed combat that will fill all your destruction and mindless carnage needs, the game also offers newly added skill trees and other customization options.

One of the best modern adaptions of L4D2, Darktide brings all grimdark from Warhammer into the genre. The classes are fun, and the interactions are unique. That being said, even now, the game still possesses some issues. But as seen throughout the years, the game is only getting better. So, purge the heretic for the Emperor in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
